Vertigo

by Asaduzzaman, Mar 11, 2009 02:04PM
My child is 3 and a half years old, weight; 20 kgs. She often complains of the vertigo that lasts only for 1/2 seconds. It happnes 1/2 times a week. I have been observing the symptom since she was two. I saw a neurologist. He advised some blood tests (sT3,sT4, sTSH) and EEG. All tests were done and there was no problem. I dont see any other symptom abnormal. She is a squint with R/E. She plays, walks, sleeps normally, What is wrong with her head? Currenty she is taking i) Piracetam BP and ii) Cyproheptadine Hydrochloride syrups. There is no improvement. What might be the possible causes.

Hi,

Vertigo is due to many causes. They are central causes, like diseases in the medulla oblongata, cerebellum. It can also be due to eripheral causes like diseases of the ear, infections of the ear, diseases of the inner ear, diseases of the vestibulocochlear nerve, diseases of the neck. Diseases of the eye also cause vertigo, specially squint, where the two eyes are unable to act in a coordinated manne.

It is possible that your daughter has vertigo due to her eye problem. However, if he problem persists despite medications, it is advisable to consult a neurologist
