B12 deficiency sometimes happens in older people who take a lot of antacids. Antacids will decrease the body's ability to absorb that vitamin, so if you've been taking them lately, stop. When a person is low on B12, they will have neurological symptoms, like you describe. Injections or doctor-prescribed oral treatment is absolutely necessary. Also, eating eggs, milk, cheese, meats, and cereal will help keep your B12 up.
