by falgun, Sep 19, 2007 07:10PM
Hi I am 22 yrs old and have been diagonised with Vitamin B12 defeciency.Reports show that Vitamin B12 levels are way below the normal range. Are there any neurological symptoms.I have been feeling very dull and low since the last 2-3 yrs, I have had sore throats, I am finding it difficult to communicate with people, and having a problem figuring out directions, that apart I feel palpitations in the head after I have coffee or ne form of caffeine.I am feeling heaviness in the head too.I would appreciate if  someone could guide  me , as this is becoming unbearable and very stressful.

I have bene advised to take B12 injections on a regular basis.

B12 deficiency sometimes happens in older people who take a lot of antacids.  Antacids will decrease the body's ability to absorb that vitamin, so if you've been taking them lately, stop.  When a person is low on B12, they will have neurological symptoms, like you describe.  Injections or doctor-prescribed oral treatment is absolutely necessary.  Also, eating eggs, milk, cheese, meats, and cereal will help keep your B12 up.
