Waiting to long?

by Tamie__0, Aug 16, 1998 12:00AM

We have taken Jonathan to a ped. neursurgeon,he was our second opinion.  Jonathan had a head ultra sound on July 23rd with presures in a normal range. However, his head continues to grow at rapid rate.
Is it possible for him not to require a shunt? How long is long enough to wait?
this is in response to on original message.
  Thank you - Tammie
a ct scan is a better way to evaluate the ventricular size as oppose to a head ultrasound.
I recommend that you have a ct scan for comparison.
from what you are saying, it is diffuclt to say if he does not need a shunt.
you might might to ask more questions of the neurosurgeon you saw of what will be his criteria for doing
a shunt, what is he waiting for, etc.
