What could be wrong?

I plan to go to the doctor soon for this but I thought I would seek out some info here first. I'm not sure if this could be related to the problem, but I had 2 severe migraines 4 years ago with visual distubances during both of the migraines. I was 14 at the time. I'm 18 now. I have been having problems mostly with my eyes that have gotten increasing worse over the years. They started out as minor eye problems after the migraines. My eyes didn't seem to react right to light. I could look at a TV or source of light, then look away and still see the flash of light for about 5 seconds. Then it progressed to persistent floaters in my vision ( I see them all the time, no matter what)and what seems to be nearsightedness (I see things blurry at a distance) . Both of my parents are nearsighted. I just had a baby 2 months ago and from there my vision problems have been getting much more disturbing, as well as new symptoms. Now I constantly see what looks like floaters, but they're lit up..kind of like a glittery appearance. They aren't always there, but are 90% of the time. I still see the persistent floaters. I am also seeing flashing lights in my vision at times and my side vision is shadowed in both eyes. I don't notice the shadowed side vision until I'm standing next to a light colored wall. The shadowed side vision seems to get worse if I move my head back and forth, and when I do this, there is a yellow light in the shadowed vision. Like I said before, I can only see this when standing next to a light colored wall. I'll sometimes get stationary spots or shimmering lights in my central vision that tend to stay there for about 30 seconds, then disappear. None of these symptoms are ever proceeded by a headache. For the past few days I have also had a problem with drooling for no reason. Its beyond my control. Sometimes along with these symptoms, my face will become kind of numb, along with my fingertips and toes, but it isn't very noticable. Its only slight. Other than the persistent floaters and shimmery spots, these symptoms tend to occur exclusively at night. The vision problems get worse at night too. Any ideas as to what could possibly be causing my problems?? They have been worrying me enough to cause panic attacks.

Thanks for your question.  Although it is possible that your vision problems
are migraines-related, their persistence would suggest a "status migrainous",
or continuous migraines, which is quite uncommon.  It is more likely that
such visual alterations constitutes a separate problem.  It is quite concerning
that you appear to be describing a problem with your visual fields that is
bilateral, and affecting the "sides" of your vision.  Few lesions can cause
such a visual impairment, including a mass/compression in the Optic Chiasm,
where the nerve fibers from each eye crosses over to the opposite side of
the brain.  It is difficult to determine without a physical exam if your
symptoms about facial numbness are the result of a neurological impairment
or possibly a result of hyperventilation (along with the numbness of finger
and toes).
You should definitely schedule a medical evaluation, if possible with a
general neurologist, and also consider an evaluation by an ophthalmologist
for your visual symptoms.  In particular, it might be helpful to have a
Visual Field test to properly evaluate your bi-temporal ("on the sides")
visual impairment, particularly if they are confirmed during the physical
examination.
I hope this information is helpful.  Best of luck.
