What is wrong?

by sweet_kay, Oct 28, 2009 10:48AM
I am 22 years old, Male, no history of any medical problems. I probebly dont have the healthiest lifestyle (alot of sitting sleeping). About 5' 9", 210 lbs. No street drug's, and no medications.
my symtoms are:
Tingely, and very desensitized from my waist down, a bit in my abdomen and back, also my ring finger and pinky finger on each hand. It started in my feet and has slowly progressed up in a fairly semetrical patern. There is no pain but a slight discomfort. I still have good motor skills and reflexes, i can do everything normaly except run. Today Makes day number 8 with these symtoms.
On day 6 i went to the ER in my hometown. The doctor had told me that it is extremely rare for some one my age to come in with these symtoms and instructed me to go to UAMS and see a Neurologist. I went the next day. I had some blood drawn and a spinal tap done. the results came back as i had a slightly high white blood cell count in my spinal fluid, indecating that is could be a virus. They had said that they couldnt be sure of that for a fact and that if it were a virus then it should go away within a few days but they want me to go ahead and make an appointment within the next week at the UAMS neurology clinic for a follow up.
My Concern is that I dont have much faith in the virus theory. This does not feel like something that will go away within a few days. I am also worried about what might happen if this "tingle" reaches my head.
I would love to hear some suggestions as to what this might be, or maybe some things to try to make my condition better. Any feedback would be very helpfull. thx

Hi,
Since you have long sitting hours and most probably a bad sitting posture, there could be spinal nerve compression in the back leading to the numbness and tingling. Please go for MRI of the spine and consult a neurologist. Physiotherapy and medication may provide you some relief. If the compression is severe, you may need a surgery.  Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
