What would cause my legs to suddenly stop working ?

My legs just suddenly stop working. There is no warning sign. I find out by standing up from a chair and my legs are jello.  I have complete control of my legs, I can walk, climb stairs, get out of a chair, any thing, then out of the blue I have lost control of my legs. There is no pain or any kind of sensation. No matter how hard I try they will not respond.  Then several hours later my legs start working, back to normal. No side effects it's like it never happened.  I have seen Doctors and specialist.  I  have had MRI,Cat scan, X ray, brain wave test They can't find any thing.  I see a chiropractor for lower back pain.  I'm 71 years and I have diabetes,CHF and COPD. All are in control as best as they can be. I see Doctors and follow their advise.

I am 17 felt severe pain in both the legs and they stopped working completely. I fell down on the ground. My parents brought me into hospital. They did MRI and blood test all is normal but there is no motion in my legs. I am still in hospital from 7 days Doctors  Are trying to find out the cause and giving treatment.  First they have given a course of GBS. I felt some improvement and stand on legs but in next 5 minutes I felt severe pain again my half body below the waist is not working. I am in hospital need ur help.

Nerve entrapment secondary to narrowing of the passageways through which the nerves pass and inflammation are likely, as mentioned. Squirtatious was correct in suggesting foraminal stenosis. That being said you need a color dopplar of both legs and a circulatory/vascular consult. You need an evaluation of the pulses in your feet and lower extremities.  CHF sometimes causes fluid accumulation that results in vascular impingement. Keep asking questions and don't be afraid to get a second opinion.

I found out my spondylolisthesis went symptomatic when my legs became heavy and sluggish one day out of the blue. I could not control them and walked like a duck, so to speak. I went to the dr, the did mri and found significant bilateral root nerve compression, which caused severe foraminal stenosis. It effected the motor root nerves in my legs. Im not sure what could be causing yours, since nothing was found on your MRI. Keep us posted, God bless!!!!
