Whats going on ?
Ive been diagnosed with high blood pressure but i am on Ateneolo 50mg and it is now under control. However every morning i wake up feeling rough for about an hour and most mornings i wake up with a completely numb left arm, which goes aftr a few seconds of waking. Also last night i woke with my heart racing like mad but then resumed back to normal . In the morning my eyes seem to be bulging slightly as well .Im only 30 years old and i didnt have any of these problems years ago .Whats going on?

Dear Alan Cooper:

I am not sure what to tell you.  Waking up with a numb left arm every morning is not normal.  It might be that your sleeping position may be decreasing your circulation to the left arm.  Although it would be unusual to have this happen every night.  Having your heart wake you up, I am not in a position to answer, this may be from a bad dream or it may be from something physiological such as REM sleep and you just happened to wake up.  May be it is time to see a neurologist and just have a good check up.  Tell your cardiologist about the heart racing, maybe you need a 24 hour holter monitor to see if your having some PVCs.

Thankyou for your assistance but reference the left arm numbness i would like to point out that it only the lower part of the arm that seems to go to sleep and whilst during the daytime it feels as though it has slightly less feeling in it than the right arm , this is greatly exaggerated when i have a few alcoholic drinks and there is more chance of it being numb in the morning when i have had a few to drink, but it is not numb every morning and i am not awaken in the night by it. Whats going on, is it stress, is it the alcohol, is it a tia, is it warning me of a stroke or is it something else?

Dear Alan Cooper:

It is almost impossible to tell you for sure without examining you.  Alcohol could be causing some of this, as well as stress.  It is very doubtful that a stroke or MS would give this time of frequent episodic numbness.

Dear Alan Cooper,
What you describe about the bulging eyes could be a sign of Graves Disease.  Especially if you have a racing heart and are rather on the thin side. My Aunt had it and see had one eye that starting to buldge out.  It's a problem with your thyroid gland.  I would get a thyroid test to make sure everything is okay there. I believe Ex. President George Bush has Graves.

Good luck
   Vic
