Why do I feel like I'm in the wrong position physically

Sometimes, especially while lying down, I feel like my body is in another position.  For instance, right now, sitting at my desk, I sense that my legs are facing backwards when I can clearly see that they are facing forwards.  It feels like i'm in a twisted position where the top half of my body is facing my computer whereas the bottom half is facing my back.  If I move my legs, suddenly I feel "right" but a few seconds after I stop moving, I'm facing backwards again.
This also happens at night in bed where I feel like my body is contorted when it really isn't.  What is going on?
