Why do I have closed-eye visual disturbances?

by Scrapper87, Apr 24, 2008 01:48AM
Periodically, at night (in the dark), when I get up after sleeping on my back, for a few seconds I see maybe a two second light ring that covers about 3/4 of my field of view.  It started out as a thin line, but has thickened over the last few months and is now more like a disk that blocks all but my peripheral vision.  I'm concerned that it is getting worse, although it hasn't affected my "day" sight (I've seen an opthamologist, who told me my sight was fine).  I've tried to see a neurologist, but I can't get in for about 3 months.  I'm afraid that it might be too late.  Does my symptom sound like it could be from something that is fatal?  I had "lightening" flashes once in conjunction with a slight headache about 5 years ago, but this is nothing like that.  It is repeatable  only by accident, but has progressed steadily.  I only take Zantac and Zyrtec, am overweight and sedentary, but other than that am pretty "normal".  Thanks for any help.
