Why do i read numbers backwards?

Ever since i was young, cant remember for exactly how long... I've occasionally read numbers backwards, for example instead of 76(seventysix) i would say 67(sixtyseven), dont have the same problem with words... lol would be difficult pronouncing words backwards :P, but anyway,
I used to screw my math papers because of this untill i was around 10 yrs old.
but then i might have "trained" myself not to do this and ever since i have no problem when writing numbers and have done pretty well in my exams... im currently 19 and doing my engineering studies with no problem at all.
But the problem persists... i have the right number in my head, but when i go to say it out loud, its backwards, unless i think before saying it...its only when im talking causally...
Its no big deal..but it keeps hapenning.. I'm curious.

I have this problem as well. I work at a grocery store so I'm constantly reading numbers to people for their total and I have a terrible problem either saying the cents number first then the dollar number(ex. Total is 38.41 I say 41.38) or I say the dollar number right and reverse the cents numbers(ex. Total is 38.41 , I say 38.14 . When I first started my jib , I did this to EVERY ORDER for 3 months. I thought maybe it was nerves and trying to go so fastt. So I slowed down and its helped a good deal. Not completely. I have to take abt 3 or 4 seconds and repeat the total in my head before I can say it aloud properly. Now and again I still mess it up but not nearly as often. It was so hard to deal with that at the beginning. I was in a bad car wreck a few years back and got knocked around quite a bit. Since then i' haven't really worked with money or numbers (I didn't have this trouble in school before the accident) . do you think this could be a form of dyslexia? Or maybe I'm just a little slower than most now. I felt that it was so bad that I HAD to have dyslexia. But maybe I was just going faster than my brain would work. Then again ,I have no trouble reading or writing words or  numbers, Just saying them, so it cant be dyslexia if its just numbers right? Its strange that I read numbers backwards and nothing else. Any opinions? Its a VERY annoying and frustrating problem.

I have exactly the same problem!  I'm now 32.  I can do written math problems well, but I have trouble reading off phone numbers, account numbers, etc.  I am constantly reading numbers out of sequence.  I tend to cover long numbers with my hand and reveal one number at a time in order to read off an account number correctly.  I suspect that it's a mild form of dyslexia, but have never been formally diagnosed.

I have this same problem as well. It's so weird because when I read the number out loud I know I have done it while looking at it. (ex: I'll say 71 but the number is 17.)

So I'll repeat it but often do the same thing again. I'll do it whether I'm saying seventy one or seventeen or if I say one seven or seven one.

I've found I just have to repeat the number while looking at it and go slowly. It's frustrating but not life altering. It mostly affects me when I'm reading phone numbers to people. It always seems to be from reading a number out loud...not typically writing it down or copying it.

I have the problem too! I'm 15 and I always mess up my algebra papers because I can't read anything the right way and it makes me want to cry sometimes when people laugh at me for it.
I also do the same thing with digital time, If the clock says 3:30 I'll say something like 6:30 out of nowhere even though I know it's 3:30. My parents say I just have to focus more but I've had this problem all my life without asking anyone about it. I absolutely dread reading numbers out loud as well, like phone numbers and equations.

Dyscalculia has to do with not understand numbers and their relationships. What we have is different. I am having trouble finding out what the current terminology is (don't trust Google), but for a while what we have  (I'm 61) is called it Numerical Dyslexia... but people seem to want a different phrase/word. But its not Dyscalculia, by definition.

Generally this problem is associated with a genetic disorder called dyslexia. It does not affect intelligence, although learning may be a problem. Many successful people have been dyslexic, including the late governor of New York Nelson Rockefeller. Do a google search for further information.
