Why do my nerves and limbs hurt? Help!!!

by mamama72, Jun 09, 2008 08:05PM
A fex months ago a started noticing weakness in my hands at night and when I woke up, then it would go away after a few minutes. Also a tingling sensation in my thumb and index finger. Two weeks ago I started feeling nerve pain all over my body, sometimes in my neck, other time times in my extremities. I have a terrible constant pain in my shoulders and sometimes in my upper back, arms, legs or fingers. Sometimes I also feel tingling in my toes and pain in my knees and elbows. A had some tests done and it's neither arthritis nor diabetes. What can it be? I'm terrified that it might be a tumor or something. Please help!

Hi there.

From what you have described, the pain is most likely of neuropathic in origin.  Meaning, that the pain is generated primarily in the nerves themselves.  This type of pain and weakness can originate in conditions such as MS, ALS, micronutrient deficiency (like vitamin B), and most commonly, due to stress.  Fibromyalgia is also a common occurrence resulting in the same symptoms you are experiencing.  As there can be several possibilities, I suggest that you have yourself checked by your doctor, preferrable a neurologist so that you can be assessed and treated properly.

I hope you can be rid of this pain soon.  Regards and God bless.

Thanks alot for the information. I sure hope it's stress! I forgot to mention I took ETODOLAC for 10 days and I've been feeling much better for a few days without medication. Does that mean something?
