Will this go away?????

by ljg1940, Nov 08, 2009 11:33AM
On 9/4 I tripped overe one of my dogs and hit the back of my head on my tile floor. My next memory is vomiting in the kitchen trash. The next memory vomiting in the master bathroom trash on the other side of the house (I was also changed out of my work clothes). The next memory is my husbank slapping my face trying to arouse me from the den floor. My family said I looked gray. I had a wicked headache all over my head, double vision, lightheadedness, vertigo, and blacking out. I called the hospital and they told to to go directly to the ER which I did. After CT scans, MRI's, X-rays, EKG and I don't remember what else they did, it was determined I had a very bad concussion. I was admitted in the hospital for 4 days and released. The Dr's (Primary and Neurologist) put me on Antivert 25mg tid, Valium 5 mg tid, Xanax 0.5 mg tid, Neurintin 600 mg tid, Prevacid 30 mg qd, and Promethazine qd prn. I am still out of work (Site Coordinator/Phlebotomist) because of the constant vertigo which is not as bad as it was, dizziness/lightheadedness also somewhat improved but still causing nausea/vomiting, and blackouts anywhere from 1 to 10 times a day, and the same nasty all around headache I get daily. I also get migrains from a car accident in 1995. Every x-ray, mri, ct scan with and without contrast, has come back negative. I have fallen over using a walker, so the Dr told me to use a wheelchair to get around. The dizziness, vertigo, lightheadedness, double vision, blurred vision, and black outs occuc standing, sitting, and laying down. Now I will immediatelly get dizzy and black out if I look up to the sky. I have had an appointment with an ENT which ruled out crystals in my inner ears and I am in the process of scheduling a tilt test to r/o neurocardiogenic syncope. Any otheer ideas on what this is? How to fix it? When I can go back to work? Any suggestions wiould be greatly appreciated. I am at my wits end with this. I am only 40 yeard old, but feel more like 70 or 80 something. My husband is tired of picking me up off the floor, and doing the domestic chores. Thank you so much

If all your scans of your brain are negative it could still be a severe concussion, which could take a long time to resolve. A concussion is brain trauma. You must be careful not to reinjure your head. In some cases, there is permanent damage. I hope not in your case.Google concussions and continue to see a good neurologist.
