Worsened symptoms

Posted By Lois H, on June 24, 1998 at 13:05:54:

Nearly 3 years ago, I had an arachnoid cyst removed from my spine at T5 and T6.  This was seen as the cause of drop foot and left leg weakness after many doctors and tests. Subsequent MRIs and myleograms have shown the cord still compressed but free flow of spinal fluid.  I wear a brace almost continually to aid in walking and to keep my foot up.  Elavil (50mg at night, 25mg in the morning) has been prescribed for the burning pain in both legs and midsection.  The drug makes me sleep but I can't believe there isn't something else wrong or something else can be done.  I have been to extended periods of physical therapy, a chiropractor, 2 other neurosurgeons, without much success.  My neurologist had me try Tegretol rather than elavil but the pain was worse.  The orthopedic doctor suggested neurontin which I haven't been able to locate information about.  It's harder and harder for me to get around and the constant pain is ruining my quality of life.  Please respond with any suggestions SOON!  Thank you.
