My 11 year old son has the following symtoms after a streptosyme infection found in his blood in Nov 2008, and after taking methylin for 5 days in Dec 2008. Could this be related to dystonia and why?
1. frequent blinking
2. painful finger cramping
3. stress induced twitches in left side extremities
4. involuntary movements/jerks in left side extremities
5. muscle stiffness and jerks in left arm, hand, fingers, leg, foot, and toes when trying to relax
6. symtoms start at or around noon daily

I have learned a lot about dystonia  since my diagnosis, I know that when I get tired and or overly stressed any and all of my symptoms are worse.
Does your son get Botox injections?  If not. Why??  Botox has not only changed my life for the BETTER but I believe it saved my life. I was in misery and miserable to be around.
Now  I'm coping well  90 % of the time instead of thte other way around. Zanaflex is a true muscle relaxer. unlike valuim that relaxes your mind then theoretically relaxes your muscles.

My Neuro Docs  have told me that  most people who have dystonia are pre-disposed to it.   I went in for carpel tunnel surgery and woke up with cervical dystonia.
When I asked why , HOW , what ?? My doc said it could have been you were pre-disposed and it would have shown up eventually. The surgery ( which did go bad) was a trigger.  Or it could have been the brain injury I had 8 years earlier and the surgery
( actually the anasthesia / nerve  block nicking of the aciillary  nerve) set off a  chain reaction that landed in dystonai land. I don't think the best of the best know all the
answers. It sounds like dystonia to me. There is a publication called Dystonia Dialoge
Maybe check it out. I notice there is usually a section on kids with dystonia.
