als concerns

36 female. 14 weeks postpardum w/ hx of lupus, no current meds. I began having problems with blurry va left eye, MRI/MRV normal. Bloodwork normal, eye exam normal. I also have pulsating vision at times, unsure why. Had weakness on left side numbing in my jaw and tingling in my legs and hand. 2 neuro checks out fine, but 4 days ago, sudden onset of fleeting quick muscle spasms all over, my legs, my arms, I feel them sporadic all over. I also feel very weak and feel that my hands do not have good strength and am shaky.  I am very anxious and afraid of all of the info I have read about ALS.  I am having a hard time functioning for fear of having this disease and leaving my 2 children.  I just cannot understand why I am having these all over shakes, I am going crazy.  With ALS, is it common that it starts like this? Thank you.

HI,

I have twitching that started about a month ago, mostly in my arms. I was feeling a bit better today, as they slowed a lot, then I was on the computer for a long time and now my left upper arm is firing like crazy. I've always had neck trouble ( stiff ) and have had numerous bouts with shoulder stuff. Am having it bad now. So I don't know if this is related as my shoulder blade is really sore and my rotator cuff is inflammed. However the bottom line is I went to get a Lyme test yesterday, as I understand Lyme can cause twitching. I've tried the magnesium, calcium, bananas, etc. So far not much help. I've read all the forums, and yes the twitching always seems to got to the ALS forum. However I think that is mostly because that is the scariest, not the most likely. It is probably the least likely. I think the odds of getting that disease is like 1 in 100,000 . What I'd like to know is with "our" symptoms what is the odds that you have ALS or something minor like BFS ( benign fasciculation syndrom ), or just a pinched nerve somewhere, or low on magnesium. I too am very worried, two kids, etc. etc. But I'm getting a grip on it, because I think it gets worse when you stress. Let me know how you make out. I'll post once I get the Lyme test results. good luck and stop over-reacting. It's almost certainly something benign.

Thank you for your comments.  I notice that the muscles in my arms are very sore and it seems to be that one day in one arm and another day in the other.  I also notice that I am getting muscle cramps in my calfs, still have the fleeting muscle twitching going on, Its almost as if I have fast muscluar pulsing.  What scares me most is the muscular weakness and what I have read about the beginning signs of ALS.  I agree with the anxiety.  I have definitely become anxious about all I have read and am fearful of this illness and the fear of the unknown.  Thank you.

This seems fast for ALS, it's likely some viral / Lime.  Also, get you something for the anxiety.

ALS DOES NOT PRESENT WITH TINGLING, IT STARTS PROFOUND WEAKNESS IN ONE LIMB AT TIME AND PROGRESSES. ANXIETY AND STRESS CAN MAKE YOU THINK YOU FEEL WEAK. I DOUBT VERY MUCH IF YOU HAVE ALS.
