I am being treated for neuropathy and fybromyalgia symptoms.  My doctor says says I may have possible ms. I am taking zoloft for treatment ,by my neurologist.  I have a have a whole lot of wide spread numbness that gets worse with movement when I try to work at production, it causes me to get dizzy feel weak and have other symptoms. I mentioned it to my regular doctor and he added another anti deppressenant, Elavil.  25 MG. The zoloft is 100mg . I was wanting your opinion of being on two differnt types of antidepressants at the same time. I foremely took cymbalta, but it caused me to have uncontrolled body movements. I also took neurotin and I felt it made me very slow thinking.

Thanks for using the forum. I am happy to address your questions, and my answer will be based on the information you provided here. Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with your doctor.

Without the ability to examine you and obtain a history, I can not make specific treatment recommendations. However I will try to provide you with some useful information.

Treatment for neuropathic pain (pain coming from nerves) includes neurontin and lyrica, and medications such as elavil (which is an antidepressant but has actually been found to be helpful with neuropathic pain as well). Other antidepressants are also helpful, such as zoloft, and the treatment for both neuropathy and fibromyalgia is similar, and often, more than one medication is necessary to control the symptoms. Combinations of medications are not necessarily harmful if taken as prescribed, and if certain other things (such as excessive alcohol consumption) is consumed at the same time. Many people are on combinations similar to yours and find benefit without major side effects.

Continued follow-up with your physician is recommended; it is important to share any potential concerns you have with him/her so that you are comfortable with your treatment regimen.

Thank you for this opportunity to answer your questions, I hope you find the information I have provided useful, good luck.
