anybody with a winging scapula

have had a problem with my neck, arms, hands, and shoulders for the past four months. I woke up in the night with extreme right arm and shoulder pain. Pain started on my right side of the top of my shoulder around to the scapular area down my arm. It was a burning, achy, and hurt to touch the skin. Than pain moved to the other side but not as bad. After six weeks of this pain I could not move my right shoulder up over my head or outward and at this time noticed a right winging scapula, also right and left hand and arm numbness and weakness occurred. I have had many MRI and EMG tests done and have visited many doctors with no results. Doctors keep telling me they think it is post viral. Please help !! I just don't understand why i am still in pain and it is not getting better with PT after 4 months. I am a 30 yr old man that has always been healthy and athletic. This just doesn't make any sense to me.

Hi, thanks for the comment.
Yes the doctor did think it was the bracial Plexius until the MRI cane back with no results. My EMG came back with with nerve damage on right and left side with no injury. Doctor is confused and I still have had no results on what this could be. Thanks, Tim

Hi
about five years ago I had a similar thing happen to me . It turned out to be a bracioplexis ( not sure if that is correct spelling but its phonetic) injury .(common with football players.
ask your doctor about this .. the nerve there is damaged and that controls the muscle to the scapula so it wings out .. I had almost the EXACT same symptoms but I was about 41 at the time and was playing Soccer I did not remember any definitive injury but I did hit the ground allot. It started out slowly then I was in extreme pain Neck shoulder arm then the scapula winged ..  I was supposed to do PT but the pain eventually subsided and then the nerve healed ..it took about 2 years for my arm to be able to reach out or up though as I guess nerves heal very slowly .
the only  thing is I later had to have major neck surgery with plates donor bone ETC . not sure if they were related or not ...
long story short ... I am not a doctor but your symptoms present almost identical to mine so I would ask your doctor .
good luck
