ascending paresthesia

ascending paresthesia

Starting the day after a spider bite on my left eyelid, I developed 'ascending paresthesia' which progressed upward from my feet to my armpits at the rate of 8 to 10 inches per day. My body has been numb from my collarbone and upper arms down to my feet for approximately one week now. As the paresthesia reached my hips, it started in at my fingertips and progressed up to just below my shoulders. The spider bite was 11 days ago and did not present any problems other than very slight pinkness, very minor swelling, minor bruise-like tenderness and momentary itching which went away in only three or four days. The volcano shaped swelling never got any larger in diameter than 3 or 4 millimeters or raised more than 1 millimeter elevation. There was no fever or infection.
My whole body feels like it has been injected with a gigantic dose of powerful novocaine. My rib cage, below my breasts, feels like it is wrapped with 20 tight rubber bands or is being squeezed by a boa constrictor snake. There has been no paralysis or swelling. I haven't been ill with any kind of viral infections or experienced any mental confusion. I had a headache on the morning I woke up with the spider bite but nothing since and I don't take any medications other than an occasional Tylenol or Advil.
I am female, 57 years old and don't have any diseases or major medical conditions other than being about 50 pounds overweight (5' 3", 200 lbs). I haven't even had the flu for several years. I've never experienced anything like this and I'm not sure what's going on. Will it stay this way, progress (to what?) or go away by itself? Is there anything that can be done about it to hasten its departure?
