Hi there. The movement disorders related to ataxia are primarily managed with physical therapy. Ataxia involves lack of coordinated and efficient action of the stabilizing muscles in the trunk, exercise training typically includes stability exercise training. Other motor deficits requiring exercise treatment including weakness, balance impairment and decreased endurance. Treatment would also focus on strategies to manage difficulties with everyday activities like cane or walker to decrease falls due to impaired balance or a wheelchair. Consult your neurologist and a physiotherapist who would assist you to overcome these disabilities. A referral to a speech therapist would do you good in speech. Take care.
