We (my wife And I) are struggling with some pretty wierd symptoms since an MVA 7 years ago and we've eliminated most everything else. Where can we find someone who can examine and diagnose autonomic system disorders?
symptoms include full body muscle spasms, gagging, tremor, hair standing up in one area only, frequent urination impulse (w.o. need), profuse sweating while cold, flushing. All of this overlays a chronic pain/RSD condition.
Several MD's have seen her, including a distonia specialist, and mostly they are just perplexed and say, "well it's not so-and-so", i.e. several negative diagnoses. "It's as if" when the pain gets beyond a certain level there's some kind short circuit and this wierd stuff happens. We think it's CNS related because the only thing that will break these spasms is vicodin.
SAeems it could be some sort of autonomic disorder but we don't know who to see to find out. By the way, THANKS LOTS for your help!!

Some of your symptoms certainly do sound like autonomic dysfunction. If you're in the Cleveland are, Dr. Bob Shields is our autonomic specialist here at the Cleveland Clinic. He does special sweat tests and is familiar with some blood tests which can help establish the diagnosis. He's extremely nice and very knowledgeable. Best of luck.
