b12 levels

Since I gave birth six months ago by c-section I've had strange symptoms. I have bad back pain that won't go away, tingling in my legs as if they are alseep, and electric shocks that go up my back to my neck everytime I walk. I also noticed my hair turning grey. Everyone keeps telling me I'm still recovering from birth. My mom then just found out she has a b12 deficiency at level 150, so she suggested I get tested for that. I did and it came back at 381 and my doctor listed that as normal. My moms doctor said levels 200-400 can still cause symptoms. Do you think a 381 could cause these symptoms? I'm not sure what to do. I was just thinking about it, my mom is 20 years older than me. So if my levels are this low now, what if they keep dropping, where will I be 20 years from now. If someone could give me an answer that would be helpful. Thanks.

Thanks. I don't see the doctor for a month and I don't really think he really believes that is it low, so I bought some supplements to see if I feel better. I got 2000 mcg methyl b12 lozenges. Do you think that is a good dose? Should I take more than one a day?

You can also take an oral supplement since you are on the low side of normal. I have received injections for 23 years and I am still only  in the 300 range. So if you were to receive injections of b-12 there is no guarantee how much your body will absorb.
If you do decide to take them orally I would have your primary care follow up with a blood test to keep an eye on your levels,
Hope you feel better soon :)

Hi,

B 12 deficiency can cause tingling, numbness, nerve shocks, headaches, sleep disturbances and mood changes.
Your mother’s doctor is right B 12 deficiency symptoms can occur at levels as high as 400-500pg/l. So it will make sense to eat a diet rich in B complex vitamins like eggs, potatoes, milk, meat, fortified cereals and see if your symptoms improve. B complex supplements may also help.

Thanks
