baby with an enlarged brain ventricle

by amsbaby, Jan 11, 2008 07:12PM
Today I had an ultrasound done. Everything was looking fine until the doctor starting measuring my baby's brain ventricles. He said that they were slightly dilated measuring a little over 10mm when they were suppose to measure less than 10mm. He said that this dosen't necessarily mean that something is wrong with her but it could mean that my baby will have developmental problems but, he wasn't very specific on what type of developmental problems. I was wondering what type of developmental problems my baby can possibly have from slightly enlarged brain ventricles?

Hi,
How old is your baby? Is it son or daughter?
Enlarged ventricles should be monitored regularly for size with help of ultrasound.
Enlarged ventricle per se would cause seizure, headache, lethargies etc if not treated.
Ventricular enlargement can cause learning difficulties and other cognitive deficiency.
Hope this helps.
Bye.

My partner had a 25 week ultrasound scan on thursday this week, the left brain ventricle measured 9.8mm whereas the right side measured 13.1 mm, we now have to visit Cardiff for further tests, does anyone know what this could mean? Thanks in advance
