balance problems with tingling face/ specific headache in back of head

by jessewk, Jan 21, 2009 07:21PM
About 3 months ago, when i was working night shifts, i began to feel unbalanced by the end of the shift.
Now i want to make it clear that im NOT dizzy, but unable to balance well when walking unless i am looking right where im going. i also have the feeling when im standing still...i can feel myself struggling to keep balanced. (where i have to actively think about adjusting my legs to remain from falling)
So the feeling from the night shift stayed with me when i woke up one afternoon. I was under the impression i had vertigo so i visited my MD.
A few weeks back i went to a doctor and i ended up having hypertension (190/110's) on one reading. There is no genetic basis of this in any of my family members, and I am a very fit, active, healthy 24 y/o male with almost zero body fat and a great workout regimine. so this came as a suprise.
I told my MD about the feeling of being unable to balance which lasts usually for about 4-5 hours, and after 2 hours i have a headache in two specific spots on the back of my head basically where the lateral ventricle would anatomically meet the parietal on the outside. this lasts for about an hour, and at the peak of this headache my face tingles, for about 45 minutes. (this has happened 4 days out of the last 7)
after about 5 hours, the balance seems to return a little, and the headache subsides, replaced by exhaustion (probably because the effort i exert to function while feeling so poorly).
So utimatly, my question is. is or CAN this be related to my hypertension (which is still in the high 140s on 5mg's of norvasc)? If not, which im not convinced it is, because the balance has remained poor since the regimine of norvasc, what are some possibilities?
Ive searched high and low...and what ive come up with is lupus, orthostatic intolerance, any viral infection in the labrynth, vertigo...
Im assuming my bp is elevated to an extent because im so stressed about feeling this way. What are some tests that can be done to really narrow down where the inability to balance and tingling sensation is coming from???
thank you so much...im hopeful i can get some ideas soon, as I am going to see another MD in the next few days. I want to be able to present my case as clearly as possible to him/her to help them out.
