bfs and potassium

I believe I have BFS.  I've had numbness in my the toes of both of my feet for over 5 years.  I had an EMG a few years ago but I think it was clean.  I've noticed in the last year or so that I've been getting cramps in my feet at bedtime.  Sometimes they wake me from sleep.  I've also noticed that I have twitches in my lower calves, first only at night but now I sometimes experience them during the day.  Years ago, when I was pregnant, I had horrible charley horses in my calves and thighs.  I started eating more bananas because I was told they were high in potassium and would help alleviate cramps.  Then I was told that dried apricots were even higher than bananas for potassium  I've found if I eat a handful of dried apricots before bed, the cramps don't happen or are at least reduced in their intensity.  I still have the numbness and the twitching, though.
Has anyone done a study of potassium and cramping in BFS patients?  And, if the cramps are eased because of it, does this mean that I don't have BFS?
Thanks,
pc77
