brain atrophy?

by Jim63, May 18, 2008 05:22PM
I've had chronic depression for 10+ years requiring daily antidepressiants such as zoloft, cymbalta, and presently, effexxor. However, presently the depression has greatly deminished...some weeks I don't require any medicine.   2 years ago, I started having blurry vision along with dizziness and blood-shot eyes.  At that time, an ophalmologist could not find any problems other than early stages of cataracts.  Because I have been unemployed and can not afford adequate medical attention, I did not do anything else.  2-3 months ago, the same symptoms increased much more with "soreness" and/or pressue on my brain as if you were pressing the brain w/a finger.  also, my words are sometimes jumbled, often forgeting what point I'm trying to make.  Via a "free clinic" , I've been sent to a participating Neurologist, ENt specialist, neuro-ophalmologist.  a ct scan showed nothing.  I could not afford the MRI.  I really don't think the "participants" are giving their best efforts because I don't have insurance, nor a job, but nothing has been found.  I wonder if it could be a brain tumor effecting my eyes and causing these symptoms or what.  Last week, I was to have a prostrate biopsy, but one of the 2 preliminary pills put me on a stretcher and took 3 hours w/ IVs to enable me to walk out of the clinic ...w/o the biopsy.  the pills were levofloxacin and Hydroco/apap5 (Vicodin5).  When I was a child, I became cross-eyed due to a high temperature (measals, mumps?) which were later straightened out w/eye surgery.  I've always been able to get dizzy relatively easy, for instance, two rounds on a merry=go-round would send me home from grade school. I wonder if I could have occured some brain damage thats related and now manifesting itself or JUST WHAT?  I could go back to driving a truck if I could get to the bottom of this but as is, I'm stuck.  Physically, I'm in good shape ..blood pressure, cholesterol, strength, ...also, my memory is going to pot.  I've thought the "depression" could actually have been related to harmone problems.  In the last 2 years,  I've lost all sexual tendencies, aspirations.  please point me in the right direction.  Incidentally, I obtained an MBA degree from Clemson in 1994 at the age of 49 but was never given the opportunity to use.  a few years later,  the depression started, futher enhanced by a divorce.  I only mention this for background that may be pertinent.  Jim
