brain cell transplant

I saw on the news several days ago about an experimental surgery that transplanted brain cells (neurons) into a stroke victim's brain and the results were almost miraculous.  These transplants are being done on patients who had a severe stroke up to 5 or more years ago.  One woman who was told she would never be able the see, much less walkagain, was given this so called tranplant and she seemed almost fully recovered.  She could see and walk on her own.  I'd really appreciate any information regarding this new surgery and who is performing it.  Thanks

I am afraid that the report that you heard must have been wildly
inaccurate, only one trial of this procedure is currently in place, it is
taking place at the University of Pittsburgh, the first transplant took
place on the first patient on June 23 and this is the only person enrolled
in the trial so far,it is so early that at this stage no results are
available.
I am not sure where you heard this but there is no basis for it in the
scientific literature, the idea is exciting but we are a long way from
the sort of results suggested in that TV program.
