brain tumors hreditary

my son who was 7 back in 2007 was diagnosed with a brain tumor in his brain stem and only lived till January 2008.A couple years ago my husbands cousin who was only 2 died of leukemia.Is cancer in any way hereditary?

Hi,
I am extremely sorry to hear that you lost your son . In most children the cause of the brain tumour is not known but in some tumours like the Optic glioma it may be due to a hereditary disease called neurofibromatosis.5% of all brain tumours are related to known genetic condition .
