From the multiple procedures that you had as well as the previous histories of trauma and rheumatoid arthritis, it is indeed possible that some nerves may have been seriously or permanently damaged, causing this burning symptom (this character of pain is typical of neuropathic pain).
Other possible causes would include blood supply and drainage problem which is due to narrowing of the abdominal arteries (caused in turn by hypertension or increased cholesterol levels). This may have to be evaluated by angiogram or a venous doppler.
As there are several possibilities, it is best to have this evaluated by your doctor.
