central sleep apnea

An MRI 2 years ago showed atrophy in my brain. I am 55 now. I now have central sleep apnea according ro a sleep Dr. Could those two things be related. I am declining as far as with memory loss and coordination with walking. I am going to ask for a repeat MRI. If the atrophy is extending could this cause me to just stop breathing when I sleep. I have a pattern that I do not even try to breath at times while sleeping. I then take a long deep breath. This did not show on my last sleep study one year ago. That one just showed the obstructive apnea. I also take the lowest dose Morphine ER pill prior to sleep but have been taking this for some time.which is most likely. Would the atrophy cause this later in its stages or could it cause this earlier? Thank you for listening!
