cervical spinal stenosis

by kmc89, Jun 23, 2007 12:00AM
My husband has been diagnosed with severe cervical spondylosis at the C5-6 and C6-7 level with spinal stenosis.  There is also neural foraminal stenosis at the C4-5 level.  There is flattening of the cervical spinal cord at C5-6 level.  At this time the surgeon has said that he needs a anterior cervical diskectomy with a fusion at all 3 levels becuase he feels that my husband is at risk for spinal cord injury.  We are trying to get a second opinion.  He alson has rheumatoid arthritis.  He has cervical redicular pains syndrome with severe nerve compressions at all 3 levels.
Are there any alternatives with this type of diagnosis besides the diskectomy and fusion?  We are very nervous about this type of surgery.  We haven't been able to see another surgeon yet for a second opinion.  I would appreciate any type of help.
