cervical spine problem

by jonie1208, May 10, 2008 06:54PM
HI! My mom for the past 6 months have been feeling discomfort and tension feeling from the neck down running towards to the shoulders and to the arms. We have gone to a rehab doctor and already had MRI and it showed that shes has compression on the c4-5 to c6-7.  Her results are as follows.  Hope you could shed some light because my mom is very depressed about her situation and most likely she is close to nervous breakdown.

Impression on the MRI on the cervical spine:

1.  Cervical spondylosis with mild dis bulges from C4-5 to C6-7, as well as multilevel foraminal narrowing as described secondary to uncoverterbral hypertrophy.  NO evidenc of a disc herniation or central canal stenosis at any level.

2.  2.6cm lobulated septated soft tissue leion demonstrating markedly hyperintense T2-W signal with moderate heterogenous contrast enhancement, in the location of the right longus colli muscle.  Consideration include intramuscular hemangioma, nerve sheath tumor, parathyroid tumor, and less likely lymphadeopathy.  RBC tagging ad conventional angiogram are further examinaions that can be used for further characterized this lesion.

3.  Small Tarlov cyst within the left C7-T1 neural foramen.

Thanks !!!

Hi there.

They symptoms that your mother is experiencing may be directly related to these findings especially the 2.6 cm lesion that has all the differentials reported.  This can cause a great amount of discomfort even in the absence of any significant compression from the **** bulges.  I suggest that you discuss with her doctors regarding the possibility of ascertaining the nature of that 2.6 cm lesion (whether through a biopsy or the RBC tagging or angiogram that was suggested).  Psychologic counseling can also help in addressing the depression, as depression heightens a person's perception of pain and stress.  I hop she can go back to normal soon.  Regards and God bless.
