chicken pox complications?

15 year old son had chicken pox with severe headache and high fever, two weeks from onset, still with headache ( at times a 9 on pain scale, never lower than a 6), develops low blood pressure, weak, sensitivity to light and sleeping 20 hrs day. bloodwork says ok, MRI supposedly ok.  all done at smaller hospital. Put on toradol for pain.  Are they missing something or just over alarmed mother?

Hi there. The next common complications of chicken pox after skin issues like scarring in children affect the central nervous system and include a disorder affecting the cerebellar portion of the brain, cerebellar ataxia and wobbling, dizziness, tremor and altered speech, encephalitis or the inflammation of the brain with headaches, seizures and decreased consciousness, damaged nerves or nerve palsies and reye’s syndrome, which is a potentially fatal combination of liver and brain disease associated with aspirin, hence no unsupervised aspirin to febrile children. I would strongly suggest that you take your son to a superspeciality hospital for a detailed workup to avoid any neurological sequelae. Take care.
