chronic hemicranial migraines

Are there any recent advances in the area of treatment for chronic hemicranial migraines?  My 54 year old mother was diagnosed with this within the past year and we have yet to find any relief for her.  Any info you could post or other web sites we could research would helpful and much appreciated.
Dear Kyle:
I am sorry to hear of your mother's migraine headaches.  I am assuming that the other reasons for headaches beginning in a person's 50s has been addressed.  There is a relatively new class of migraine medications on the market.  These are call the triptan drugs.  They come in injectables and tablets.  For approximately 60 - 70% of patients with migraine headache that are helped by these medications.  There are several new drugs on the market that are currently being tested.  These are antiepileptic drugs.  I would recommend that your mother see a headache specialist or at least a neurologist familiar with migraine headaches.
I hope your mother finds relief from her migraines.
Sincerely.
