chronic neck pain

by p-j, Oct 23, 1998 12:00AM
My husband had c6 disc surgery about 5 yrs ago. About 1 yr ago he reinjured his neck. Since then he has had chronic neck pain and it goes into the shoulder area. All on one side only.
He has been seeing a chronic pain dr and going thru pt which has only helped a little. He has been on
hydrocodone this whole time. Anything else makes him very sick and with severe headaches such as the
methadone, morphine, ect.He had c scan plus mri which showed nothing that his ortho dr could help him with. He has had the maximum on the spinal epidural injections, uses the tens unit and
today when i suggested to his dr spinal cord stimulation he indicated that the pain he is experiencing is
not coming from the area that this would be beneficial for. He did suggest that he try getting what he referred to as the nerves "burned" in the pain
area, it would only last for about 6 months because they regenerate and you have to do it all over again. He said my husband may have fascicous disease
I must not be spelling this word correctly I can not find anywhere on the web this type of disease.
Could you tell me if you are familar with this procedure?
  Thank you

Dear PJ,
I am not sure what the correct spelling for the condition you are referring,
there is facet disease that can cause pain and there is also factitious disease, this is when all tests come back negative and the patients still symptomatic and the many of the symptoms can't be explain physiologically (does not make sense). From the description you provided it seems like the former is the case, maybe. IF you can  find out the correct spelling  please repost your question and we will do our best to help you.
