Chronic pain can have multiple definitions. Typically it is described as a persistent state of pain lasting longer than expected for healing not associated with an underlying tumor or acute injury such as trauma, surgery, etc. There is no defined time of when it is chronic versus acute. Some suggest chronic pain is a pain lasting 6 months or greater, but this can be debated.
