chronic pudendal nerve pain

by js45, Jun 30, 2007 12:00AM
In june 2006 I had pain in my coccyx from sitting on a hard chair. I fractured my coccyx 21 years ago and often sufferred with this pain and so ignored it for a while. It persisted and so I saw my doctor who gave me anti inflammatory drugs and muscle relaxants. This did nothing, the pain worsened and the muscles in my buttocks began to contract until it was unbearable and I went to hospital. They did tests, scans, colposcopies, etc and diagnosed coccydynia. They performed an infiltration (steroid injection)  into the coccyx and sent me home. I spent the next 6 months lying down, having physiotherapy and in agony. A further infiltration was done in december followed by a manipulation of the coccyx in january. I then went back into hospital for the pain and they could do nothing. I researched the internet in desperation and found a doctor in Paris who is an expert in this condition and he said he could not understand why I was in such pain. He performed a third infiltration under x-ray and gave me a prescription for amytriptillin. My own doctor then gave me morphine and pregabalin and in february  2007 I sarted to walk again and regain my life. Throughout this period I had extreme pain in both my vagina and anus and any exercises for the perinaeum only worsened the pain. My coccyx is now fine but I am left with pudendal nerve pain that makes sitting painful (burning and itching) and travelling in the car is likely to worsen the pain for several days. I have tried accupuncture which didn't help. I have seen a gynaecologist who says she can see nothing wrong. I saw a neurologist who gave me anti depressants (escitalopram). I currently take tetrazepam, pregabalin, escitalopram and amyltriptillin which does not apprear to have any effect.
I am about to see an osteopath but having found your site am now thinking that I would be better served seeing a neurosurgeon. Can you help with your opinion please?
