coccygectomy

Posted By merrie on October 23, 1998 at 19:49:55:

I am asking this for a friend.  He fell several years ago and 400 lbs fell on top
of him.  His l5-S1 disc was ruptured and his coccyx and sacral area was heavily damaged.
His disc has gotten better over the years, but his tailbone is still very painful.  He is
scheduled for surgery to have his coccyx removed.  Questions are: How long is the recovery
for that type of surgery?  He has been told it is pretty brutal surgery.  Is this true, and what
is the success rate of the operation and what are possible complications?  Thanks for your
advice.
