confusion, headaches, dizziness, loss of concentration, weight loss, loss of balance, seizure

A few weeks ago, she had a seizure-like episode at work.  She was talking to a co-worker, and the co-worker said that Lindsey look like she was in a daze, then stiffened up & started posturing and then she fell.  After falling, she hit her head and had to get 2 staples.  She was unconscious before she fell and has no recollection of the episode.  Co-workers say she woke up at her office and was asked if she new where she was.  She'd answer "yes" but coundn't proceed to tell them where she actually was.  They also said she was giggling during this time.  She has no recollection of speaking with her co-workers, but she finally "woke up" in the ambulance on the way to the ER.

**A few months prior to the event, she had headaches, sleeplessness, and numbness/tingling in her fingers and toes.  She was also taking Zoloft, Spironolactone--2 times daily & Yaz--Generic (Both prescribed together for oil/acne control), Ambien (As needed for sleeping), Clonazepam--1/2 tab (Anxiety Med, also used for seizures but not out on that for any seizure symptoms).**

Her bloodwork came back saying her sodium was low, but the CT was normal.  The PA in the ER gave her IV fluids and told her that they thought she had a fainting episode and sent her home.

She went to her family doctor a couple days later.  They did an EEG which showed some abnormal activity.  Since the episode, her blood pressure has been low (90/60) and her blood sugar has been low.  She is also experiencing light-headedness, headaches, confusion, lack of coordination, nausea, & stomach pain.  At times she said she feels confused...like she's drunk and said she can't think clearly (can't seem to put together comprehensive thoughts or put into words what she's trying to say).  She has also been making a conscious effort to eat larger quantities of healthy food to get more nutrients, but she's been losing weight about 2 lbs a week (she weighs less than 100 lbs to begin with)!!  She has seen her family physician, and neurologist.  The neuro put her on Lamictal, but she continues to have the headaches, dizziness, loss of balance, & confusion.  She's still on her other meds that she was taking before.

They have not come up with any idea for the cause of what's happening to her, but she's completely miserable.  What I'm wondering is if you think we should get another opinion, or if you think they did the right thing by putting her on Lamictal??  She had no history of seizures or anything prior to this event, and we'd really like to find some answers as to what's caused this to happen.

I'm sorry for barging-in, I know the question was posted 2 years ago and it's kinda very late to dig in, but i really want to know if they ever found out what was Lindsay's diagnose?
My mom recently had the EXACTLY SAME episode; and doctors here are unable to find any clue on what's happening to her?
thanks in advance :)

I have had a seizure disorder for the last 26 years.  I can relate to a lot of the symptoms/episodes that you have mentioned.  I would definitely get a second opinion.  My initial thought is that she is basically overdosing on the various meds you listed.  I have a freind who had no history of seizures.  She was on various anti-depressants, etc. and the doctor didn't monitor the levels close enough.  She started having various problems including seizures and was put in the hospital.  The found that there was too much of the drug in her system even though she was only taking the prescribed dosage.  As far as the Lamictal goes, it and other anti-convulsants can cause a lot of  side effects including the headache, dizziness, loss of balance and confusion.  Talk to the doctor right away about lowering the dosage of Lamictal or taking her off of it.
For me, all the anticonvulsants I took just made things worse.  I felt drugged all the time and would still have some seizures.  I ended up seeking out surgery for mine and now just have headache type seizures.  (I have a bad headache when my brain misfires rather than a full-blown seizure.)
I think there is a good chance that if you can get the doctors to get her off Lamictal and adjust the dosage of the other drugs, she will probably be fine.
