Hi
The post-concussion syndrome or PCS lasts for weeks, months, or occasionally years after a concussion or moderate to severe cases of traumatic brain injury. It is seen in 38–80% of mild head injuries. A diagnosis may be made when symptoms last for more than three months after the injury, or it may be made starting within a week or ten days of trauma. In late, persistent, or prolonged PCS, symptoms last for over six months, or by other standards, three.
The nature of the symptoms tends to change over time. They are most commonly of a physical nature (headache) following the injury, but tend to become predominantly psychological (difficulty concentrating, irritability) later.
The outlook is generally excellent, with total resolution of symptoms within a few days to several weeks or until six months. It is only in a small minority of people, that the symptoms may persist for years or be permanent. It is very rare that permanent neurological symptoms result from an uncomplicated concussion.
Hope it helps.Take care
I am not familiar with the PCS or how long it should last....but r u sure the symptoms u r having rn't being caused by something else..as a result of the accident??I have chiari and am aware of aquired chiari...which can be attributed to an accident to trauma to the head or neck.....did u have MRI's of the head and neck?...check out the chiari forum...also try the ASAP web siste or the chiari institute....there is plenty of info at either site.
I don't know if u have chiari, ur symptoms are very similar....
Good luck
