corpus callosum

corpus callosum

I got a baby boy one month back, but he is still in SCBU and no improvement in the hospital so far.

Problems:-
1. Doesn’t breath smoothly (he is supplied with Oxygen inside the container)
2. Can't swallows milk only through a pipe plugged through the nose to the Tommy, even that sometimes he got a problem and stop feeding for few days and IV instead used.
3. He got Convulsion since born for 5 times and now is given a medication for this convulsion.
4. MRI is been don and he has been diagnostic as corpus callosum. The doctors said that, a big part of the middle brain (joining the left and right brain) is not complete or developed during the pregnancy and will not be cured in the future.

At the moment we are very worried about him, where we don't know what is going to happen for him? I appreciate if you could provide me with more information/ advice/ and what functions can be effected if he manage to pass this difficult period.

Thanks

My heart goes out to you and your baby.  MY 24 week preemies (twins) were born with severe issues 26 years ago weighing 1 lb +.  My daughter now is doing extremely well.  Her twin, though he has multiple mental and physical challenges has been home since he was a year old and has a high quality of life.  You have many challenges ahead of you but my experience has been to learn as much as you can about the conditions and options and advocate for your child.  In the meantime give the baby as much love, affection and contact as possible, even if it is only through a hole in the isolette.  No human can truly predict the exact course your baby will take.
