Hi there.

If the foot drop is due to a stroke, which means that the nerve controlling the dorsiflexion of the foot is already severed due to the stroke, then it will be very hard to regain that lost function since nerves hardly regenerate.  However, through continuous physical therapy, some functions can be recovered by recruiting other nerve and muscle groups to perform that lost function.  Special orthoses (apparatus that can be applied to the foot and leg area) can be used to correct the position of the foot, and at the same time make it possible to bear weight on that foot.  I suggest you discuss all of these with your doctors.  Regards and God bless.
