corrective eye surgery/lens

Hello,
I recently posted about GBS/Miller Fisher. Thank you for your response. I feel more comfortable with the diagnosis now.
One more question if you can. I have heard from other patients who had eye paralysis as well and I understand the recovery time can vary greatly. I was also told by one patient that corrective surgery can help if the damage is determined to be permanent.
Can you comment on corrective surgery (or lens?)and describe how it works. Who does it and how is "permanent" damage determined.
I'm trying to be patient. It's only been one month since I was hit with GBS/MF, but as a working artist this is hitting pretty hard with regard to my job and needs of daily living. Thanks again.

Dear One more question:

I would not recommend surgery at this point.  You are still very early in the recovery phase. I have seen patients where the recovery was not complete, but this was not the standard Miller-fisher patient.  It takes many months for full recovery, and there is not much to do.  As the recovery takes place, you will notice things getting better.  Since each patient is individual it is difficult to tell you how long your recovery will be.  Many times we have patients patch one eye to help them from getting dizzy with the double vision.  Hang in there and recovery will come, how much will depend on the extent of your disease.

Sincerely,

CCF Neuro MD
