deciphering my mri report

Hello, I was hoping you may help me understand my mri. I've had back pain for years; the past 6 months my left leg has become numb & pain is sometimes unbearable. Ive had all the therapies: Chiro, injections, etc. & now am considering surgery. Can you please tell me if this will help me? My report reads as follows:
There is mild convex curve of the thoracular spine. No definite evidence of acute fracture or significant subluxation.
There is mild loss of disc signal from L2/3 to L5S1 consistent with disc dissecation. There are patchy areas of increased signal adjacent to the endplates of L2/3. At L2/3 there is minimal posterior bulge/osteophyte complex & mild ligamentum flavum & facet hypertrophic changes present. There is no significant spinal canal stenosis or neuroforaminal narrowing. L3/4 level reads exactly the same asL2/3. L4/5 there is a right & left posterolateral extra neuroforaminal disc protrusion superimposed on a disc bulge/osteophyte complex & mild ligamentum flavum & facet hypertrophic changes are present. There is no significant spinal canal stenosis. The left neuroforamen is mild to moderately narrowed. The right neuroforamen is at the lower limits of normal. At the L5/S1 level there is a central disc protrusion superimposed on a disc bulge/osteophyte complex & there are mild to moderate facet hypertrophic changes present & mild ligamentum flavum hypertrophic changes present, the combination of which results in the spinal canal being minimally narrowed. The right neuroforamen is mild to moderately narrowed The left neuroforamen is patent. Impression: Multilevel degenerative disc disease andfacet arthropathy.

Hi there. These MRI findings are consistent with your leg pain and paraesthesia. You have disc dessication (desiccation) which is beginning of disc degeneration at L2 /L3 to L5/S1 levels. There is disc protrusion over the neuroforamina that might be impinging on the exiting nerve roots. The general impression is degenerative disease of the intervertebral disc at multiple levels and inflamed facet joints which are present between the adjoining vertebrae. You will have to undergo discectomies at multiple levels and relief from pain is expected. It may not be complete and you may discuss with your neurosurgeon as to the degree of relief expected. Take care and all the best.
