A wasting away and decrease in size of gray matter of brain. Diffuse means that wasting is generalized, not confined to one particular area.
Usually the patient will start losing higher mental functions one after other, like memory loss, forgetfulness etc.
In what regards you have this question?
Thanks for the reply .One of my close relatives ( Male 55+) got an MRI done and the one of the observations was "Diffuse cortical atrophic changes" and also diagonised with cervical spondylitis . May i know what will be the impact of that and also is it somthing like Parkinson's ? How to cope up with that ? . Is there any other source of information available over te Web?
How is your relative doing now?
Cervical spondylitis means painful neck, due to inflammation of the space between the neck vertebras, due to age related degenerative changes. The symptoms are usually neck pain accompanied by stiffness, pain which may radiate to the shoulders or to behind of neck. There can be non-specific headaches occurring mostly in the sub-occipital region which radiates to the base of the neck and top of the head.
Loss of sphincter control and urinary incontinence occurs in very rare cases, but some patients complain of urgency, frequency, and urinary hesitancy.
Yes you can have cortical atrophy in Parkinson's disease, but there are other symptoms associated with Parkinson's disease.
I think there is wealth of knowledge on internet which you can refer to.
Hope this helps.
