drooling

My husband has excessive drooling because of Parkinson Disease.  He was taking Sal-tropen and it caused problems.  Is there anything else that he can do for this?

Hi.

Drooling (sialorrhea) is usually treated by anticholinergic medications.  However, some people have not been able to tolerate the side-effects associated with these drugs.

There have been reports that botulinum toxin injections could help in alleviating the drooling symptoms in Parkinson's disease.

You should consult your husband's neurologist if this is a possible alternative therapy for his condition.

Good luck.
