drug induced parkinsonism

what is drug induced parkinsonism,which drug causes it? and what is the drug of choice to treat the same??and wht is the mechanism of the treating drug??

Anti-psychotic drugs can do this like Stellazine, as well as I think one of the nerve herb supplements like Kava-Kava, plus there may be some other medicines that can cause this Parkinson type thing, altho there are other various terms for the drug side effect.  Treatment varies, but IV Valium will knock it down in a big hurry.  

I do not know how Valium or other recommended antedotes work, other than some tranquilizers have muscle-relaxing properties, but they also affect a part of the brain that is somehow hardwired for relaxation.  People in the ER know what to do when someone comes in with that stiffening that begins in the neck muscles, particularly when the patient can tell them what drugs they're on.  They look in a book that tells them what to inject the person with.  

I'm guessing you may think if Valium works for that type of side effect, surely it would work for folks with Parkinson's, but I don't know too much about that disease or today's treatments used for it.  Or if you or someone you know is having this dreadful sensation going on, well, get thee to an ER ASAP, because the longer it goes on, the more chance of permanent damage there is.  Actually, I'm not sure if Stellazine is even on the market anymore, becuz of its propensity to seize up people, but that is just the example I'm familiar with.  

I had it many, many years ago, scared the daylights out of me, had nightmares for long time about my mind slowing up my walk, altho I did not have that as a symptom.  Could be, therefore, the problem is a brain actvity and not a muscle thing.
