:eft Phrenic Nerve Damage

I had sub-clavin bypass surgery several years ago and my left phrenic nerve was accidentally cut and a Neurosurgeon tried to repair the damage.  I had Xrays taken and it showed  the left diaphragm not working.  I had trouble breathing for several years and recently toke a sniff test  and was told the diaphram is now working.  X rays show the Nerve to be elevated. My questions are:

1)  What does elevated mean in regards to the left diaphragms ability to perform properly?

2)  Is it possible that diaphragm muscles in the chest took over and the muscles in the chest is what is assisting the diaphragm  to work and although elevated shows it is working during fluoroscope exam?

3)  If the diaphragm is working properly then why would it be elevated?   By being elevated does it mean I am not getting the max amount of oxygen that I would get with a non elevated diaphragm?
