electrical shock like feeling in ear

My Daughter is 32 had a baby one year ago. she called to tell me she was having electrical shock like feeling in her ear and her head  is tender when touched.  she talked to her doctor and he told her to take Advil for a week and see if it subsides. Last night it woke her from sleep. She lives in the US and we are in Canada. My wife and I are concerned. What advise should I give her?

hello, i am 26 years old, female, and i am diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia, would like to know if its normal to feel pain in my ear...it used to not be so constant and now everytime i suffer from one of the attacks the pain in my ear is usually present,  i have my second and third ramification of the nerve affected, and i dont have too many symptoms to my eye, but my ear usually suffers from a stabbing deep pain, and sometimes i cant swallow well since i feel as if my throat is not in control as if its numb.  Offcourse my head hurts, and cant be touched as well as moving my head in any direction usually increases my symptoms.  I am scared cause its my first time that i see my self in a situation where even if i am taking medication "Lyrica"...(antiepileptic), i keep on suffering from attacks which i never know when they are going to come.....only the pain itself is what makes me want to cry....i am writing this cause if it doesnt go away i will have to get morfin, and my question is if having pain to my ear if its normal?, or is it another type of neuralgia?
thanks

Hello Dear,
The condition looks like trigeminal neuralgia caused by trigeminal nerve  which is responsible for sensations of the face. The cause is probably a blood vessel pressing on the trigeminal nerve. Tumors and multiple sclerosis can also cause it, but in some cases the cause is unknown. The pain is sudden, severe, electric shock-like, stabbing that is typically felt on one side of the jaw or cheek. The   pain can be triggered by vibration or, washing the face, brushing teeth, eating, drinking, talking, or being exposed to the wind.It may also occur at night.Your daughter should consult a neurologist and get the diagnosis confirmed. The treatment consists of medicines, surgery, and complementary approaches.
