encephalomalacia

by doraw, Nov 13, 2008 11:43AM
My mom was diagnosed in 2005 with an oligodendroglioma brain tumor. After a complete resection, radiation and chemo, she is now cancer free. However her MRIs continue to show increased areas of encephalomalacia.  I know this is a softening of the brain tissue; what I don't know is what can happen in the long run? Can this get better? Is there treatment for it? My mom sleeps all of the time, has lost some mobility, short-term memory loss (which I know is from the radiation), unsteady gait, and incontinence.  We have tried other steriods and ritalin.  Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
