epilepsy?

my son is 34 yrs old, when he was 17 he had a serious car accident, in which he had severe head injuries, resulting in him having numerous mesh plates in his skull, he thank heavens had no obvious brain damage and apart from in the early years having mood swings, has been well, approx 4 years ago he had a plate removed from the front of his head, all went well. over the last 18 months he has had what i think are a form of seizure, the symptoms are, he will rub his fingers together on his right hand, and lick his lips, and seems to be in a day dream for about 1 minute, when i ask him about it he doesnt realize what has happened. are these fits dangerous and should he seek medical advise, or could it be anything to do with the remaining plates in his skull? it is such a worry and would be gratefull if you could give me some advice.

This discussion is related to videos of seizures.

Hi,

What you describe indeed sounds like a seizure. Seizures can have many reasons, with head trauma (like in your son's case) being one of them. In this case the trauma is probably the cause and not the plates in his skull, since they usually don't do that.

Like in any other case of seizure, your son needs to see a doctor about this. This is because the seizures aren't necessarily dangerous, but can develop into more severe seizures. Another reason to see a doctor in this case is to make sure the seizures are indeed related to the accident and not to a new cause. The doctor can perform a brain image or an EEG and see the origin of these seizures and see if they fit the place of the lesion from the accident.
